Running a company in Italy

In 1907, more than one hundred years ago, Giuseppe Vismara started off as salesman for glass, crystal and mirrors produced by Mariano Comense. Vismaravetro has operated in the market niche of directly produced shower units for the past fifty years. Things have undergone a considerable change since the company was established in 1947. Both in society and in our company. Generations have gone by, houses are built according to new criteria, and comfort has been enhanced in the bathroom. Our company has changed considerably, from the name to the product. A new Vismara generation, the third one, to be precise, has entered the company to give its contribution. There has been an injection of new ideas and new enthusiasm. Hence, today Vismaravetro is organised to be able to face every commitment with constant focus on providing practical proposals. Manual skills and industrialisation, technology and research, design and communication, all factors that lead to solid strategies and specialised production. The mission is to design, build and market shower units as if they were genuine items of furnishings with very high technical and formal quality. Chanelling energies in new directions to be developed day by day with a keen perception for every growth opportunity.

Vismaravetro today. We are a leading Italian company that specialises in the integrated production of shower units made of tempered glass, with standard products that can also be flexible and custom-made. Our production activities are carried out in two facilities (Giussano and Verano Brianza) over a total surface area of 18,000 m2 and 32,000 m2. Today Vismaravetro is characterised by a powerful international calling. Products are distributed in 25 foreign nations through a network that counts 2,100 points of sale. We also operate in France through the brand VismaraFrance, and in Belgium with the brand VismaraBelgio. We have a sales office in Spain. Since 2010 our entire product range has been displayed in the Vismaravetro showrooms based in the historical headquarters in Verano Brianza, in the strategic Parc d’Affaires lnternational Paris Nord 2 and in Barcelona. The latest showroom was opened in Aalst, Belgium, in 2013. We yearly produce about 70,000 shower units, using 650,000 m2 of tempered crystal (equivalent to 1,630,000 kg ), and 498,000 linear metres of aluminium profiles. We have 2,800 clients in Italy and 2,100 retailers in 25 countries.

In 1907 Giuseppe Vismara started off as salesman for glass, crystal and mirrors produced by Mariano Comense. For almost seventy years Vismaravetro has conducted business in the market of direct production.

The Beginning: Glass from the Very Start



1947 is the year of the firm’s foundation in Giussano. It is initially called Vetreria Elia Vismara. Furnishings is targeted as reference market, a decision consistent with the industrial tradition of this area, well known for its many furniture factories. The first commodity sector of the glassworks is that of glass understood as a furniture complement: mirrors, shelves for living rooms and bedrooms, table tops, decorated and sanded glass.

Rebuilding Italy



These are the years of transition both for Italy and its industry. Years of growth and turbulent development that have radically changed the aspect of the Country. Years of growth and consolidation of the young company going ahead with the help of constant expansion of the production facilities and the building up of a sales and distribution network.

1965
More Independence, More Homes



In the years 1960-65 the furniture market is hit by one of the classic structural crises; Vismaravetro managed to anticipate and cope with this change through a diversification of its market outlets, with a consequent updating of the production and considerable financial investments. The diversification, namely the discovery of a new reference market, is handled by Vismaravetro in the most rational way, with a survey carried out accurately interpreting the requests of the Country. In those days, the main dream of the Italians was a home of their own, and the new market was the building sector. The proper product sector to propose so as to be able to compete successfully was that of tempered glass, a new technological specialization. So, the product range was enriched by such items as: doors, parapets for stairs, partitions, glass doors and the first shower doors. An innovation made possible by the high mechanical strength of this kind of glass processing.

1974
The Growth Goes On



With the contribution of the second generation (Engineer Giuseppe Vismara has been in the business since 1967 and later flanked by his wife Elisa), Vismaravetro keeps actively growing. The progress in technology and production goes on: significant sums are invested with the aim of expanding and introducing innovations into the entire production cycle with the help of more advanced equipment. The biggest change is the setting up of a third plant for glass tempering: a furnace of considerable size operating in line with four stations, necessary to meet the requests directly associated with an increase in sales.

New Lifestyles



New lifestyles: the habits of the Italians tend to conform to those of more developed Countries and the shower is one of the hallmarks of this change. Vismaravetro changes logo and starts producing shower cabins, developing more and more frequently and successfully new applications and custom-made solutions. The market potential on one hand, a solid experience and specific know-how on the other, lead to an individual entrepreneurial decision: the new mission will focus on designing, building and marketing shower cabins as if they were downright pieces of furniture. Thus, two parallel paths take shape in this development: on one side, the glassworks with its traditional customers (furnishing, building industry), on the other, the market of shower cabins with typologies and new styles as Rolly, Nika, Eur, Rollex, Fabula.

Shower, or Rather Two Bathrooms



The growth in the business of shower cabins calls for the opening of new production plants for the processing of aluminium profiles, the assembling of the cabins, the packaging and shipment. These are the years when the Plurimo series is launched, one of the first examples of modular systems for shower cabins. Total Quality, Innovation and Concreteness



The most beautiful product on earth, able to thrill the largest possible number of consumers, is bound to fail if its “poetic” components are not supported and corroborated by concrete practical aspects. In other words, today no customer is willing to buy a marvellous sports car, which fills with water at the first downpour. Therefore, quality is a hard-and-fast rule of the modern market, and Vismaravetro’s policies in this sense are implicit and clear: being acknowledged not so much for quantities as rather for the quality of its products. In this sense, the installation of an oscillating horizontal tempering furnace (fifth system set up and second one in Italy), offers advanced quality standards and a definite increase in productivity.

The Branch of Verano Brianza Is Built



The facilities of Verano Brianza (Milan) currently include the production of the shower cabins, the sales and shipping departments, and the showroom. With the construction of this new plant, the available operational area reaches 11,000 square metres: a space proportionate to the constant growing process of the business, that has marked it since the beginning, but which has become more and more significant in these past few years. The new facility of Verano Brianza is a much advanced plant able to perfectly meet the various needs of a highly innovative company. The aim is that of giving more scope to the research of new technological and formal solutions.

Innovation as a Strategy



Every business can legitimately decide how to compete. It chooses its positioning, the most appropriate way of staying on the market. And it is always the market, through the unequivocal response of sales, to ascertain whether the company’s strategies have been the proper and winning ones. Our job has never suffered the lack of acknowledgement by public and insiders. This is because Vismaravetro has always made the same clear choice: a high quality standard of products and projects. Products like Sintesi, a line of frameless shower cabins, or like Idros, ensuring a constant and simultaneous delivery through many opposed water jets having the same temperature and force. A diversified offer achieved thanks to considerable investments in research and innovation.

After leaving the plant of Verano Brianza, the Vismaravetro products face the more and more demanding challenges of the market every day and all over the world. Such an exacting standard of today’s international market can only be dealt with thanks to the winning combination given by an organization able to continuously invest in order to improve the quality of services and products. A day was not sufficient to build up all this, of course: a new Vismara generation, the third, has entered the business to give its contribution. We have been enriched by new ideas and fresh enthusiasm. Thus, today Vismaravetro are able to face any task with competence as if it were the beginning of a new adventure, paying constant attention to the specific proposals. And addressing its efforts towards new paths to be developed every day, aware of any opportunities for future growing.
